High School Curriculum
West Virginia Virtual Academy (WVVA) knows success is not a single destination, and that the journey can often take many turns. No matter the path, we believe in unlocking every learner's potential by meeting them where they are and helping them reach their goals.
Explore Our Courses
As students move through middle school and into high school, they take on greater independence and responsibility for their learning. High school courses are designed to help students build the knowledge and skills they need for success after graduation whether they plan to attend a four-year university, pursue community or technical college, enter the workforce, or explore another career pathway.
Throughout their courses, students:
- Learn grade-level content aligned with academic standards
- Complete coursework that may include writing, research, and projects
- Develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Build skills that support college, career, and life readiness
Eligible high school students may also have opportunities to earn college credit through dual credit and dual enrollment programs.
WVVA also offers credit recovery options for students who need additional opportunities to earn required high school credits.
Preparing High School Students for College and Career
Your student can gain valuable skills and experiences for the future whether their plans include college, a career, or both. WVVA students can explore career options and participate in specialized, career-related learning experiences.
Students can choose from courses in these career fields:
Eligible students may also have opportunities to participate in WVVA’s Tech Bridge program, which supports approved shared enrollment opportunities with Career Technical Education (CTE) centers and other postsecondary partners while maintaining progress toward high school graduation.
Students may also have opportunities to prepare for industry-recognized certification exams upon graduation.²
Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment
WVVA offers dual credit and dual enrollment opportunities through Pierpont Community & Technical College, giving eligible high school students opportunities to earn college credit while completing their high school education.
¹The K12 9–12 course descriptions include the full range of high school courses provided by K12. WVVA offers a comprehensive selection of courses; however, not all courses listed in the K12 course catalog are available to WVVA students. Course offerings are subject to availability.
²Many Microsoft® Office certifications can be earned after completing one course. Other certifications require additional coursework for greater preparation, and students who participate in the program for at least two years will have further preparation for certification testing.
